Napa County Office of Education
2121 Imola Ave. Napa

Whether or not we lost our home in the fire, we’ve all had to deal with the fear of the recent blazes. Not all traumas have such a marked beginning and end:

  • A disappointing report card.
  • Being embarrassed, bullied or excluded.
  • Moving or changing schools
  • A breakup with a girl or boyfriend, parents’ fighting or divorcing.
  • A family member getting a serious health diagnosis.

Dr. Barbara Nemko, the Napa County Superintendent of Schools and her husband, Dr. Marty Nemko, former school psychologist and a prominent career and personal coach, will explore best strategies for moving forward from trauma. The workshop will include Q&A as a group or privately after.

  • For parents and children grades k-12
  • This workshop is FREE

Napa County Schools Emergency Air Quality Guidelines

English | Spanish

The Napa County Office of Education and the five school districts in Napa County:  Napa Valley Unified, St. Helena Unified, Calistoga Joint Unified, Howell Mountain Elementary and Pope Valley Union Elementary, have developed in conjunction with Napa County Public Health Officer Dr. Karen Relucio Emergency Air Quality Guidelines for staff and students.  All of the K-12 public schools in Napa County will be adhering to these guidelines.

The guidelines utilize the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Air Quality Index (AQI) numbers.  If the AQI number is in the Green, Yellow, or Orange range schools will be open, with varying actions put in place to protect students and staff.  If the AQI is in the Red schools in that city or community will not be open for the day. Families will be notified via the usual communication channels by 3:00 pm if Red is expected the following day.

Dr. Barbara Nemko, Napa County Superintendent of Schools, said, “Student and staff safety is the highest priority for NCOE and the five Napa County school districts. These guidelines will ensure we are making consistent and safe choices. The Emergency Air Quality Guidelines have been created specific for this fire event, acknowledging that it is ongoing and will have cumulative effects.”

The Napa County Schools Emergency Air Quality Guidelines is located online in English and Spanish.

As previously announced, Napa Valley Unified School District, St. Helena Unified School District, Pope Valley Union Elementary School District, Howell Mountain Elementary School District, Calistoga Joint Unified School District and Napa County Office of Education schools plan to resume classes on Monday, October 23. Napa Valley College will also remain closed through Friday, October 20.
