Resources Available to Teachers And Substitute Teachers

Substitute Teacher Booklets - All Substitute Teachers should have a copy of the booklet "Substitute Teaching in Napa County" to bring with them for their processing and orientation appointment.    The "Substitute Teacher's Activity Book " has helpful activities to use in the classroom and the Special Education Handbook has helpful hints for Substituting with Special Education Students.

When you have completed all the substitute teaching paperwork, including the fingerprint Live Scan form, call Helen Mitchell, Credentials Analyst at 707-253-6825 for a processing appointment and orientation and bring the "Substitute Teaching in Napa County" Booklet Part 1, 2, & 3, and the "Substitute Teacher's Activity" Booklet Part 1 & 2 with you.  If you plan to substitute teach in Special Education, also bring the "Special Education Handbook." 

Napa County Office of Education maintains a Curriculum Library, which is located at 2121 Imola Avenue in Napa.  The library is open Monday through Friday, 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.  or go to Online Curriculum Library and review the resources that are available to use in the classroom by substitute teachers and teachers.

The Substitute Teaching Division of STEDI (formerly the Substitute Teaching Institute at Utah State University) provides a free monthly eNewsletter with helpful teaching information.  They also provide contests, a blog, and a live chat line.  You can sign up for this and create an account by going to the STEDI website at:  http://www.stedi.org  Click on Substitute Teacher Enter Here, which bring you to the next window.  Click Registration and fill out the New Substitute Teacher Account to receive the free monthly eNewsletter.

The Subsitute Teaching Division of STEDI has a variety of helpful links called SubLinks that provide ideas for classroom managment,  activities, lesson plans, and resources for teachers and substitute teachers.  A Sub Instructor Kit is available to purchase at this site.  The kit includes a CD with video clips and a Substitute Teacher Handbook.  However, NCOE's Curriculum Library has twelve copies of the Substitute Teacher Handbook, and they are available to check out.
