Employer Advisory Committees

Through these committees courses are kept up-to-date, relevant and geared to meet the needs of business and industry.

Education Code Section 52302.2 requires each ROP governing board to establish and maintain Employer Advisory Committees for each industry sector for which the ROP offers courses. The committee must meet at least once annually for the purpose of accomplishing the responsibilities established in the Education Code. Employer Advisory Committees do not approve curriculum. They provide ROP with information and confirm that the course meets the needs of employers.

Employer Advisory Committees are expected to do the following:

  • Assist in the development of skill certificates and identify the skills and knowledge that students completing an ROP course sequence are expected to have.
  • Assist in the development and review of new and existing curriculum.
  • Approve the criteria and method used to evaluate whether students actually acquired the identified skills and knowledge.
  • Review at least once a year whether students who received the certificates were successful in obtaining employment.
  • Provide ROP'S with input related to the development of Scholarships, internships, paid summer employment, and post graduation employment opportunities for students participating in the course sequences. There is no requirement for members to provide internship sites.

Benefits to Business and Industry:

  • Make recommendations concerning the skills and knowledge required of prospective employees.
  • Have access to a source of trained employees.
  • Meet and work with others from similar businesses.
  • Develop a better appreciation of career technical education.
  • CAROCP - Free Membership

Internships

Napa County ROP courses are designed to give students the opportunity to explore careers by instruction and hands on applications. We are always looking for paid and non-paid internships for our students as this gives them a real world opportunity to learn about a career.

Internships can be done in many different ways. You can allow students to "shadow" an employee on a one time basis. Non-paid internships are usually done over a period of time where a student is given the opportunity to learn about your jobs and industry. When students have been a non-paid intern for a period of time, and it has been determined that they are now doing the job in a productive way, then the student usually moves into a paid internship.

The benefit to you as an employer is that you will be helping to shape the future work force for Napa County as well as possibly finding the perfect employee you've been looking for.

If you would like more information about internships or are interesting in becoming involved in our internship program please contact Shirley Clauss, Napa County ROP Coordinator of Workforce Development, at 707.259.5943 or email Shirley Clauss.
