Napa County BTSA Site Administrator Information
Why?
Site Administrators receive support for their Participating Teachers in:
- Clearing their Preliminary Credentials through Induction
- Improving their professional practice over time and with hard work in relation to the
California Standards for the Teaching Profession - Providing their students with optimal instruction so that they may achieve the state-adopted content standards at a high performance level
- Expanding content knowledge and pedagogical skill through instructional skills workshops from which Participating Teachers may choose. These are designed to support site initiatives and to address their two annual Induction "Inquiries."
Who?
- All site administrators with Participating Teachers at their sites
- Any interested site, district or County Office administrator
What?
BTSA Site Administrators are requested to sign the
Participating Teacher's Commitment Form which asks that they:
- Participate in appropriate BTSA Site Administrators' Training annually (full training in first year; tune-up in subsequent years).
- Fully internalize the
BTSA Vision and Goals, Induction's part in the
Learning-to-Teach Continuum and the local
BTSA organization - Provide additional assistance and/or resources to PTs who are assigned to more challenging settings. Review the
Phases of First Year Teaching and the list provided at annual training on
Ameliorating Challenges - Provide a site orientation addressing all items on the Napa County BTSA "
Site Orientation Checklist." - Align formal evaluation goals with
NVUSD District Goals with
Site Professional Development Initiatives and the PT's
Individual Induction Plan. Additionally, understand the function of the Individual Induction Plan within the Formative Assessment for California Teachers system (see
FACT Overview within the Participating Teacher’s Experience). - Facilitate the introduction of PTs to the staff and their inclusion in the learning community
- Ensure that each PT at the site has technology (hardware, software, connectivity) to provide evidence of teacher/student technological fluency
- Ensure that the PT has at least one English Learner and one Special Populations' student in his/her class
- Inform the staff about the California Standards for the Teaching Profession, and explore their use during professional development
- Participate in SP selection. (See the
Support Provider Qualifications, Commitment and Selection Process) - Meet with SP at least twice a year to be updated on BTSA activities; respect the confidentiality between the SP and the PT. A
Support Provider sample agenda is provided. - Support site-level activities related to PT support and assessment: e.g., provide the structure for SPs and PTs to work together on a regular basis; ensure Colloquium participation, if required
- Align site professional development initiatives with BTSA professional development for PTs participating in Induction; coordinate with
NVUSD District Goals. Complete a
Professional Development Initiatives card annually - Communicate BTSA issues to the BTSA leadership. Work with program to resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Participate in an evening Colloquium annually. This and all training dates are provided on the
Workshop and Seminar Schedule - Respond to requests for information (e.g., surveys) from the Napa County BTSA Program in a timely manner. Review evaluation data (see
Annual Improvement Plan Summary)
How?
- Fulfill the commitments outlined above including attendance annual training as scheduled through the district or the Napa County BTSA or. . .
- . . .alternately, participating in the NVBTSA on-line series of modules is beginning at http://www.ncoe.k12.ca.us/btsa/admin/module1.htm. Please note that these modules were developed in 2007, and while most information is current, program effectiveness data and the specifics of the formative assessment system have changed somewhat. The modules are examined annually and will be removed from the website when the information is no longer deemed useful.
